Dr. Michael R. Anderson is senior vice president, children's services, at UCSF Health and president of UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals. He is a professor and vice chair for children's health, Department of Pediatrics, UCSF School of Medicine. Anderson leads the development and delivery of high-quality, safe, patient-centered care, and research and education programs at the hospitals' San Francisco and Oakland campuses.
Before joining UCSF Health in 2016, Anderson was vice president and chief medical officer for University Hospitals in Cleveland and professor of pediatrics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He is a board-certified pediatric critical care specialist, has published on a variety of pediatric topics, and has been appointed by two presidential administrations to chair national advisory committees on children's needs in disasters. Anderson has an undergraduate degree from John Carroll University (JCU) and a medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the Children's Hospital of Michigan and a fellowship at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. He holds a master's of business administration in health care administration from Kent State University College of Business Administration. In 2017, he was awarded an honorary doctor of humane letters by JCU.
