Derrick Swaak has a strong background in the real estate industry. Derrick started their career at Extended Stay Hotels in 1997 as a Real Estate Development Manager and worked there until 2002. Derrick then joined Realogy as a Vice President of National Sales from 2002 to 2007. In 2007, they became a Partner and Co-Chief Operating Officer at TTR Sotheby's International Realty. In 2020, they served as the 2021 President at NVAR - Northern Virginia Association of REALTORS®. In 2023, they joined Bright MLS as a Member of the Board of Directors.

Derrick Swaak pursued their education at Cornell University from 1986 to 1990, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel Management. Derrick furthered their education at the Cornell Dyson School of Applied Economics & Management from 1990 to 1991, where they obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a specialization in Finance.
