Christoph Schmidt is an experienced political reporter currently working at Trouw since November 2021, focusing on Dutch politics and hosting the podcast "Haags Halfuurtje." Previously, Schmidt served as Brussels correspondent and reporter on international economy and development issues at Trouw from June 2007 to July 2021, with a special emphasis on Africa and the Americas. Additionally, Schmidt has held editorial management roles, including chef eindredactie and eindredacteur. Prior experience includes reporting in Barcelona for RNW Media, news translation and editing for Associated Press and IPS Inter Press Service, and socio-economic reporting for de Volkskrant. Schmidt holds a post-doctoral degree in journalism from Erasmus University Rotterdam and a doctoral degree in economics from the University of Amsterdam.
