Mike Young has a strong background in software engineering and development. Mike began their career as a Technology Intern at DICE, where they supported internal systems and contributed to the development of a Microsoft SharePoint website. This was followed by a role as a Software Development Intern at Toro, where they worked on developing an internal website and provided insight on pages in an internal Confluence wiki.

Mike then worked as a Student Producer at Iowa State Distance Education, where they recorded on-campus classes for off-campus students, troubleshooted software and equipment issues, and provided technical advice for upgrades and changes.

Mike then joined Iowa Foundation for Medical Care (IFMC) as a Programmer Analyst, where they developed health informatics systems, maintained production web and reporting applications, and enhanced application features based on business requirements. Mike was also a member of the pilot team for implementing agile methodology.

After their time at IFMC, Mike worked as a Senior Software Developer at Curaspan Health Group. In this role, they implemented an improved search using Lucene indexes and Solr, migrated projects to Maven 3, and set up projects for continuous integration.

Following Curaspan Health Group, Mike joined Cloud Technology Partners (CTP), a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company, as a Principal Software Engineer. Mike provided expertise across the full development life-cycle and worked in agile, self-organized teams to develop cloud-native applications. Mike extensively used AWS resources to provide an internal development platform, leveraging Docker containers on top of AWS ECS and developing a Python command line and REST interface. Mike also implemented supporting services for security, logging, and a highly-available architecture for internal applications.

Most recently, Mike has been working as a Principal Software Engineer at Tidelift since 2018.

Mike Young completed their Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Iowa State University, where they studied from 2004 to 2009. In addition, they obtained the certification of Google Cloud Certified Professional - Cloud Architect from Google Cloud in December 2017. Mike also has a certification of AWS Certified Developer - Associate from Amazon Web Services, although the specific month and year of obtaining this certification is unknown.
