Robert Gilman

Dr. Robert Gilman is a professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a professor of international health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He also holds a joint appointment in molecular microbiology and immunology. His research focuses on disease control and has led to the development of microscopic-observation drug-susceptibility (MODS), a rapid tuberculosis diagnostic technique. He is currently engaged in ongoing infectious disease research based at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Peru. Dr. Gilman earned his M.D. from SUNY Downstate Medical College. He joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 1991.

Prior to joining Johns Hopkins, Dr. Gilman worked with the U.S. Public Health Service and served as an assistant professor at the University of Maryland Hospital. He was also the chief of infectious disease at Wyman Park Hospital.
