Mel Montano has a long and varied work experience. In 2021, they began working at TheoremReach and UserWise as the Head of Operations and Publisher Account Manager, respectively. In 2019, they became the Marketing Manager for Sports Endeavors, where they directed marketing campaigns and events for the SOCCER.COM 2020 American Youth Soccer Organization Uniform Program. In 2018, they began working as a Brewer and Technician for Ponysaurus Brewing Company. From 2015 to 2011, they worked at Kongregate as a Senior Business Development Manager, where they cultivated studio and developer relationships, implemented CRM solutions, conducted market research, and initiated and negotiated large scale publisher developer contracts. From 2011 to 2007, they worked at Humble Bundle as a Business Developer and Customer Support Team Lead, where they sourced, curated, and coordinated gaming, eBook, and mobile app bundles, managed a team of customer support assistants, and researched and presented data for business development usage. From 2007 to 2006, they worked at Shaw Environmental & Infrastructure as a Staff Scientist, where they supported Senior Level Staff in report and plan writing, procurement, field air, water, and soil sampling, and presented at the 2008 Annual International Conference on Contaminated Soils, Sediments, and Water. Finally, from 2006 to 2005, they worked at the CSU Chico Research Foundation as a Student Research Assistant, where they used literary and online sources to find background research on mercury waste from historic gold mines in Northern California. Mel also worked at Student Computing, Chico State from 2005 to 2006 as a Tier II Technician, where they resolved user questions as part of an IT Help Desk, connected resident students to the campus network, and successfully taught several workshops to assist students with improving skills in use of Microsoft Office and UNIX applications.

Mel Montano received a Bachelor of Science in Geology from California State University, Chico in 2007.
