Joan Were is an experienced operations manager with a strong background in environmental science and a focus on water and sanitation initiatives. Currently serving as Operations Manager at The Water Project since January 2020, Joan oversees various organizational departments. Previously, as a WaSH Project Officer at the Western Water and Sanitation Forum from March 2017 to January 2020, Joan specialized in Community-Led and School-Led Total Sanitation approaches, emphasizing sustainable water solutions and climate change adaptation. Earlier roles include Business Development Manager at The Afrovas Research House, where Joan secured Clorox as a client for market research, and Program Support Intern at GrowthAfrica, where research and funding opportunities were explored.
