Matthew Gonzalez is a dedicated educator with extensive experience in teaching and outdoor education. As the founding theater teacher at a Title I middle school in the Bronx since September 2015, Matthew has contributed significantly to the academic and artistic growth of students. In addition to this role, Matthew serves as a Chapter Leader for the United Federation of Teachers and has previously held various positions at the Manice Education Center, where responsibilities included logistics coordination and staff mentorship in outdoor education. Matthew’s practical teaching background is complemented by a Master of Arts in Educational Theatre from NYU Steinhardt and a Bachelor of Arts in Theater and Education from Hampshire College. Notable past experiences also include tutoring eighth-grade ELA, organizing multicultural recruitment initiatives at Hampshire College, and facilitating health workshops through the New York Civil Liberties Union.
