Emily Alvarenga is an experienced community reporter currently working at The San Diego Union-Tribune since January 2022, specializing in coverage of local neighborhoods. Prior to this role, Emily served as a Senior Staff Writer at The Santa Clarita Valley Signal, focusing on features and business, and contributed to the European version of Stars and Stripes. Earlier experience includes an internship at CBS News 8, where Emily assisted with script writing and video editing, as well as various writing positions at San Diego State University’s student publications. Emily holds a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from San Diego State University and has also studied at the University of Hertfordshire.
