Nicholas Weiland has a diverse work experience that spans across multiple organizations. Nicholas started their career in 2010 as an English Teacher at Hunan University of Humanities, Science and Technology in China. During their time there, they developed and delivered English lessons and taught classes on culture, grammar, and pronunciation.
In 2014, Nicholas joined the United States Institute of Peace where they held various roles. Nicholas started as a Research Assistant and oversaw research on topics such as the Iran nuclear program, conflict between Russia and Ukraine, security force capacity building in Afghanistan, and U.S. counter-terrorism and countering violent extremism efforts. Nicholas then became a Project Coordinator and was responsible for overseeing a Sustainable Capacity Building project, including curriculum development and managing project contractors. Later, they worked as a Program Specialist, where they oversaw course instruction, development, and delivery, while also conducting research and writing on national security and foreign assistance/policy.
In 2017, Nicholas took on the role of Academic Program Coordinator at the United States Institute of Peace, where they oversaw the Academic Team for the Department of Defense Ministry of Defense Advisors (MoDA) Program.
In 2020, Nicholas joined Q2 Impact as a Security Sector Governance Specialist. In this role, they were responsible for management and coordination functions, as well as participating in technical work.
Nicholas then transitioned to the role of Technical Manager at Q2 Impact in 2021. In this position, they managed a portfolio of projects, delegated work to junior staff, and coordinated with consultants, subcontractors, and clients. Nicholas also joined new and ongoing projects as a Project Director or Technical Specialist to support growth and development of Q2 Impact's services.
Currently, Nicholas holds the position of Technical Director at Q2 Impact. In this role, they are responsible for developing and overseeing growth in the Democracy and Governance practice area. Nicholas develops strategies, identifies new opportunities, manages bids, and supports both new and ongoing projects as a Project Director or Technical Specialist. Nicholas also supervises and manages the work of junior staff, consultants, subcontractors, and clients.

Nicholas Weiland completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Political Science from Linfield University from 2005 to 2009. Nicholas further pursued their education at American University, where they obtained a Master of Arts degree in United States Foreign Policy from 2012 to 2014.
