Monty Schmitt is an experienced professional in water resource management with extensive expertise gained over several roles. Currently serving as the Senior Project Director for the Water Program at The Nature Conservancy since September 2016, Monty previously held the position of Director at Marin Municipal Water District from December 2020 to November 2024. Prior to these roles, Monty was a Senior Water Resources Scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council from March 2000 to June 2016, and served as Assistant Director at Ventana Wilderness Society from June 1994 to April 1997. Earlier in Monty's career, the role of Restoration Assistant was undertaken at The Nature Conservancy from November 1992 to November 1993. Monty's education includes a Master of Science in Watershed Management from Humboldt State University (1997-1999) and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies and Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz (1989-1992).
