Joshua Matthew Rhett has a diverse work experience spanning several years. Joshua Matthew started their career as a Genetics Research Assistant at the College of Charleston in 2000 and later became an Organic Chemistry Research Assistant at the same institution. Joshua Matthew then worked as a Research Specialist at the Medical University of South Carolina before returning to the College of Charleston as an Adjunct Professor, teaching Genetics Lab.

Rhett joined the Medical University of South Carolina again in 2010, where they held various roles including Post-Doctoral Scholar, Research Instructor, and Assistant Professor. Their research focused on the role of connexin channels in ATP signaling during injuries and the effects of inflammatory cells on tissue damage.

In 2017, Rhett briefly worked as a Contractor at FirstString Research, Inc. before returning to the Medical University of South Carolina as a Staff Scientist II. During their time there, they headed several projects related to breast cancer biology and treatment.
