Janice Jackson

Janice Jackson is the Founder and Executive Director of Woman Embracing Abilities Now (W.E.A.N.). W.E.A.N. created in 2005, is a mentoring program servicing women and young ladies with varying degrees of disabilities. The mission of W.E.A.N. is to "wean" women and young ladies with disabilities from having their limitations be their focal point, thus having them living "with" their abilities. Janice is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Baltimore, where she teaches Ethical Studies. Janice entered the disability community in 1984 at the age of 24, when she was hit by and car received a spinal cord injury. Janice holds two Associate of Arts degrees, one in Human Services and the other in Mental Health from Baltimore City Community College. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Services with a concentration in Rehabilitation Counseling and a Master's of Science degree in Administration from the University of Baltimore. Janice is a volunteer and peer counselor at Kernan Rehabilitation Hospital, in on the Board of Directors of The Image Center for Independent Living, and is on the Board of Directors of The Hoffberger Center for Professional Ethics at The University of Baltimore. Janice also serves as a commissioner on The Maryland Commission on Disabilities, and held the title of Ms. Wheelchair Maryland from 1993-1994.
