Julie Sergeant has extensive experience in public health, research, and education, currently serving as Deputy Bureau Director at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment since November 2011, with prior roles including Interim Bureau Director and Population Health Strategies Director. Julie has led various Cancer Prevention and Control Programs, including initiatives focused on cancer screening, comprehensive cancer control, and opioid misuse prevention. Previous experience includes a role as a Research Associate at the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare, where Julie specialized in qualitative and quantitative research and co-authored peer-reviewed articles. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Gerontology and a Master's in Special Education, both from the University of Kansas, complemented by a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Iowa.
