Tom Howson

Q Community at The Health Foundation

Tom Howson has a diverse work experience spanning various organizations and roles. Tom is currently working as the Bevan Commission Innovation Lead at Bevan Commission. Tom joined the company in June 2021 and continues to hold this position.

In addition to their role at Bevan Commission, Tom also serves as the Chair of the Board of Trustees at LIFE FOR AFRICAN MOTHERS since June 2023. Prior to this role, they were a Trustee at the organization from June 2022 to June 2023.

Tom has also worked at The Health Foundation as a Q Community member since September 2021. Additionally, they have been a NIHR Evidence Reviewer at the NIHR Centre for Engagement and Dissemination (CED) since September 2021.

Before their current roles, Tom worked as a Life Science and Health Innovation Project Manager at Accelerate Healthcare Technology Centre (HTC) Swansea University Medical School from July 2019 to June 2021. Prior to that, they were a PhD Scholar at Swansea University from October 2015 to October 2019, specializing in improving the translation, commercialization, and adoption of Health Innovation. During their time at Swansea University, they also engaged in consultancy work for Welsh Government from March 2017 to October 2017.

Tom has participated in various professional development programs such as the Connected Health Summer School in Artimino, Florence (Italy) in June 2019, where they focused on Smart Home and Dementia-related technology. Tom also completed the European Forum Alpbach Scholarship Programme: Integrated Health and Care Academy in August 2018, earning membership in the program's Alumni network.

Before pursuing their higher education, Tom worked as a Project Manager at LIFE FOR AFRICAN MOTHERS from August 2014 to August 2018. In this role, they facilitated the distribution of life-saving medication and organized skills-sharing workshops to enhance the capabilities of the maternal health workforce in sub-Saharan African countries.

Prior to their role at LIFE FOR AFRICAN MOTHERS, Tom worked as a Patent Analyst at Patent Seekers Ltd from September 2013 to September 2014.

Tom Howson completed their Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biomedical Sciences, General at the University of Liverpool from 2010 to 2013. Tom then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Medicine and Healthcare Studies at Swansea University from 2015 to 2018.
