Esther Wojcicki

Esther "Woj" Wojcicki is a leading educator, journalist, and mother. A leader in integrating technology into education, she is the founder of the Media Arts program at Palo Alto High School. There she has built a journalism program from a small group of 20 students in 1984 to one of the largest in the nation with 600 students, 5 additional journalism teachers, and 9 award-winning journalism publications.

Wojcicki holds two honorary doctorate degrees from Palo Alto University (2013) and Rhode Island School of Design (2016) and is a graduate of UC Berkeley (BA, MA). She was elected California Teacher of the Year in 2002 by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing; a recipient of the Gold Key by Columbia Scholastic Press Association in recognition of her outstanding devotion to the cause of the school press; a board member of Alliance for Excellent Education and Newseum, both in Washington, DC; a consultant for the U.S. Department of Education, the Hewlett Foundation, the Carnegie Foundation for Advancement of Teaching, Google, the Silicon Valley Education Foundation, and Time Magazine Education​​; and is the co-founder of Tract.app.

Esther and her husband Stan have three daughters: Susan (CEO of YouTube); Janet, a Fulbright-winning anthropologist, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Researcher; and Anne (Co-founder & CEO of 23andMe), and ten grandchildren.
