Norris West is the Director of Strategic Communications at the Annie E. Casey Foundation, a private, national philanthropy that works to create better futures for the nation’s children by strengthening families, building economic opportunity, and transforming neighborhoods into safer and healthier places to live, work, and grow.
West is a former journalist who spent the majority of his 23-year journalism career at The Baltimore Evening Sun and The Sun, covering a range of assignments that included legal affairs, nonprofits, business, and transportation. Before moving to Maryland, he was a reporter at The Toledo Blade, and he started his career at newspapers in and around Philadelphia.
In his post-journalism career, West is a communications leader. He has been Director of Communications at the Maryland Department of Human Resources, the National Legal Aid & Defender Association, and Casey Family Programs. In addition, he has served as Press Secretary at the Corporation for National and Community Service and as a communications strategist at the U.S. Coast Guard. He volunteers as chair of Playworks Maryland and as a member of the Howard County (MD) Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission. He and his wife live in Odenton, Maryland.
