Maria Oah

Community Coordinator at The Aspen Institute

Maria Oah serves as Community Coordinator for Weave: the Social Fabric Project. Growing up as a daughter of immigrants, she witnessed the effects of disconnection within her circle of family and friends and grew a deep desire to cultivate communities where all who might feel like an outsider can feel seen, welcomed, and loved. At the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, she studied neuroscience to understand people better and developed an interest in public health. In 2018, she was awarded the Acara Innovation Fellowship and co-founded Educowtion, a community-led nutritional program in northern Uganda that continues to support school children today. Shortly after, she interned at an interfaith organization and a local church, where she saw the power that community relationships play in promoting economic mobility and community trust.
