Iqbal Mahmood currently serves as the Reform Lead for the Promoting Effective, Responsive, and Inclusive Governance in Bangladesh (PERI) Programme at The Asia Foundation, a role held since November 2017. Responsibilities include managing institutional reforms, program management, and overseeing the operational aspects of issue-based reform tracks. Previously, Iqbal held various roles at The Asia Foundation, including Consultant and Director for the Governance Program, focusing on civil society organizations and media, and managing electoral observation initiatives. Prior experience includes working as Deputy Director with Democracy International and as Campaign Manager for Rupantar, where significant advocacy and governance initiatives were implemented. Iqbal's career commenced with the International Republican Institute, focusing on youth engagement and issue-based networking. Iqbal holds a master's degree in Social Sciences from Jagannath University.
