Andrea Araiza has worked as a Principal Engineer - System Design at TerraPower LLC since September 2016. In this role, they have supported the design, deployment, and laboratory testing activities for the development of Terrapower's Molten Chloride Fast Reactor (MCFR) technology. Andrea is currently serving as the Auxiliary Group Lead for the Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment, overseeing the development of auxiliary cooling systems and reactor shielding. Prior to joining TerraPower, Andrea worked as a Process Engineer at Jansen Combustion and Boiler Tech from February 2011 to September 2016. In this role, they performed analytical evaluations and field testing for waste fuel power boilers and Kraft recovery boilers. Andrea also created custom boiler models to predict future performance and conducted Boiler MACT tuning and efficiency audits. Andrea's previous experience includes working as a Research Assistant at Harris Hydraulics Lab in 2009, where they completed the mechanical design and construction of an experimental Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) flume and performed trade studies to select and implement PIV software and equipment.
Andrea Araiza obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering in the years 2005 to 2009. Andrea further pursued their education and obtained a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington in the years 2009 to 2010. In 2015, they obtained a Professional Engineer certification from the State of Washington.
