Lewis Pinault has a diverse background in the space industry. Lewis began their career in 2014 as a PHD researcher at UCL/Birkbeck Centre for Planetary Sciences, where they focused on the search for extraterrestrial artifacts and developed machine learning systems for detection. In 2015, they joined Airbus Ventures as a Partner, focusing on investments in Asia and the development of system elements for space exploration. Throughout their tenure at Airbus Ventures, they also served on the boards of Infostellar, LeoLabs, Telexistence Inc, and Transcelestial as a director or observer. In 2016, Pinault worked as the Director of Corporate Development at Spire Global, leading due diligence work and overseeing satellite data services. Lewis later became a member of the Seraphim Space Advisory Board, a venture fund dedicated to financing companies in the new space ecosystem. In 2020, Pinault became the Chairman and Board Director of Atlas AI, a startup focused on creating data-driven solutions for agriculture. In 2021, they joined the board of Q-CTRL, a company specializing in quantum control engineering. Lewis Pinault's education history is as follows:
From 1977 to 1982, they attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where they earned a Science Bachelor degree with a specialization in Political Science, Ocean Engineering, and Far East Studies. During this time, they were also a UN Scholar.
In 1985 and 1986, they pursued a Master of Science degree at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Their field of study at LSE was Sea-Use Law, and they were awarded the Fulbright Scholar distinction.
Finally, from 1997 to 2000, they studied at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, earning a Juris Doctorate degree. During this period, they were a NASA Space Grant Fellow and specialized in International Public Law and Planetary Geophysics.
