Patrick Sean Wells is an experienced professional in the field of tailings management and technology development within the mining and energy sectors. Currently serving as the Technical Excellence and Innovation Lead at WSP in Canada since April 2023, Patrick is responsible for creating an Innovation Development process for Mine Waste Canada and Global Mining while overseeing major tailings projects. Prior to this, Patrick held the position of Manager Tailings at Teck Resources Limited since April 2020 and served as a Senior Engineering Advisor - Tailings at Suncor Energy from August 2002 to April 2020, where responsibilities included establishing best practices and a technical centre of excellence for tailings. Additional roles at Suncor included Director of Technology Development and Manager of Research Engineering. Prior experience also includes work as a Tailings Planner and Modelling Underground Beat Geologist at Placer Dome from June 1997 to August 2002. Patrick holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Geological Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan and has further education in Computer Systems Analysis and Programming from Control Data Institute.
