Caroline is the granddaughter of the school’s founder, Francis Dorr Swift Tatnall. She became a Trustee in 2013. Caroline and her husband Rob established the Ketcham Fund (now the Esmond Fund) in 2011 to encourage the teaching of and participation in programs highlighting the concepts of honor, respect, and civility. She began her board service as a member of the Program Committee and is currently on the Executive Committee as well as the Search Committee to identify their current Head of School.
Caroline was the Head of Upper School at The Field School in Washington, D.C., for 15 years and taught geometry and modern European history, as well as a seminar on the Holocaust. Field is a school much like Tatnall in its concentration on developing every student, with devotion and dedication, to his or her fullest potential. Her time at Field was followed by a 15-year stint at Politics and Prose Bookstore in Washington.
A graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman’s College (now Randolph College) in 1962, she went on to earn a master’s in history from Georgetown University in 1986.
