Bruce grew up in Taiwan from the age of one until he graduated from Morrison Academy in Taichung in 1988. He fondly remembers many competitive athletic events and cultural exchanges at the Shilin TAS campus. Despite being British by birth, he went to the US for university, completing degrees at Oregon State University and the University of Oregon.

After completing MBA and JD degrees at the University of Oregon, Bruce joined Intel and spent over 20 years in primarily finance roles spanning the US, Malaysia, the Philippines, and China, with 17 of those years being outside the US. Bruce left Intel to take up a position at Amazon China, where he was the GM of the Devices business for China.
