Michael van der Velde is an accomplished security professional with extensive experience in both public services and the aviation industry. Currently serving as Director of Projects and Operations Security at Sydney Metro since January 2021, Michael oversees security for major projects including the Northwest Operations and Western Sydney Airport. Prior to this role, Michael spent nearly two decades at Qantas, where responsibilities included providing security and risk management advice as Manager Security Advisory. Earlier career experience includes serving as Regional Security Manager at Ansett Australia and a distinguished 17-year tenure as a Detective Sergeant with the New South Wales Police Force, recognized by multiple awards for investigative excellence. Michael holds several degrees, including a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Social Science in Justice Studies, alongside various specialized qualifications in security and legal practice.
