Storycatchers works with youth in the juvenile justice system. We help them tell their stories through musical theatre. By moving beyond their histories, they transform their own lives, communities, and people like you who are ready to listen.

73%-93% of incarcerated youth have experienced severe trauma. By providing a platform for youth to confront their trauma by writing and sharing their story, youth develop socially, emotionally, and creatively. 

These powerful stories create change, both individually and societally. We work with the Chicago Police Department in unique and critical ways. Our young people perform for judges and civic influencers. Every year, hundreds of at-risk children watch and discuss the stories performed in our musicals.

Our goal is to teach youth the skills they need to emerge successfully from court-involvement and become leaders and mentors in their communities.

The Arts Education Team at Storycatchers Theatre is dedicated to empowering youth in the juvenile justice system through the art of musical theatre. Comprised of experienced teaching artists and directors, the team facilitates workshops that guide young people in writing, performing, and sharing their personal narratives. By fostering creativity and emotional expression, the team helps participants confront trauma, develop vital life skills, and ultimately become leaders and mentors in their communities.
