Emma MacDonald is an experienced policy professional currently serving as Director and Establishment Director of the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation at Stats NZ since April 2023. Prior roles include policy contractor at Emma MacDonald from August 2018 to September 2023, Manager of Initiatives at the Ministry of Education of New Zealand, and various positions within the Department of Corrections NZ, including Policy Lead for the Women’s Network Programme. Additional experience includes roles at InternetNZ, the Department of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, and the Ministry of Science and Innovation, among others. Emma MacDonald holds a Master of Library and Information Science from Victoria University of Wellington, a Master of Arts in Social Policy from Massey University, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Otago.
