Mahyad Tousi is a multidisciplinary artist, writer, and filmmaker whose directorial debut REMOTE (2022) premiered at the New York Film Festival and Tate Modern Museum. Beginning as a conflict zone documentarian, Tousi's work as cinematographer, writer, producer and director spans film, television, video art, virtual reality, interactive media, comics, and digital media in over 50 countries.
Tousi founded the non profit organization, Starfish that champions underrepresented artist-entrepreneurs and elevates their culture-defining ideas. He serves on the advisory boards of MIT's Center for Advanced Virtuality and Get Media Savvy, a collective working to advance media literacy through pop culture and education.
Born in 1973 in Portland, Oregon and raised in Tehran during Iran's revolution and war, Tousi's early life was shaped by revolution, war, and profound social transformation. He emigrated to the United States as a teenager and has made New York his home, where he’s lived for the last 29 years.
