Tom Byers is a distinguished Professor at Stanford University's School of Engineering since July 1995, where focus is placed on high-growth principled entrepreneurship and responsible technology innovation. Tom serves as the first holder of the Entrepreneurship Professorship endowed chair and is a Bass University Fellow in Undergraduate Education. Additionally, Tom has been the Faculty Director of the Stanford Technology Ventures Program since 1995. Prior roles include President of Slate Corporation (1990-1993), Executive Vice President and General Manager at Symantec (1985-1990), and Product Manager at Digital Research, Inc. (1982-1985). Tom started their career as an Analyst at Accenture (1975-1977). Academic qualifications include a PhD in Management Science, an MBA, and a BS in Industrial Engineering & Operations Research, all obtained from the University of California, Berkeley.
