Alexander Vandersmissen has held various significant roles in public service and local government, currently serving as Schepen van mobiliteit, burgerzaken en dierenwelzijn and Burgemeester of Stad Mechelen since January 2013. Previously, Alexander held positions including Fractieleider gemeenteraad for the city council's Vld-Groen-M+ list and President of Woonpunt Mechelen from 2007 to 2018. Experience also includes serving in the Brussels capital government's cabinet under Minister Jean Luc Vanraes, working with Open Vld, and providing assistance in the Belgian Chamber of Representatives. Alexander Vandersmissen earned a Licentiate degree in Political Science from Vrije Universiteit Brussel between 1993 and 1997.
