Software Engineer - Private Cloud

Job description

The Cloud Services team at SS&C is responsible for standardizing our infrastructure footprint. We manage the private SS&C cloud, hybrid cloud strategies, and application platforms. We provide the tools teams need to develop, deploy, and maintain their applications. We have a unique array of customers spanning from finance to healthcare and as such have a wide array of application demands to meet. As an SRE you will be partnering closely with our software engineers and operations organizations to improve the resiliency, availability, and maintainability of our existing services. This team is transforming how SS&C approaches infrastructure. We are standardizing on modern industry-proven practices and codifying them for the rest of the company to utilize. The team is working to empower teams via self-service options for infrastructure requirements. Given SS&C’s footprint there are many opportunities for growth and development working across an ever-evolving technology stack. You will be partnering with software and operations engineers to architect and build a modern private cloud solution that can handle the requirements for a global company. The top priority for this role will be leading the efforts to architect and implement a Kubernetes offering in our private cloud. Responsibilities • Design, build, and deploy managed services that power critical financial services • Establishing and communicating best practices for a large engineering organization • Mentor other software engineers around patterns and practices for highly available systems Qualifications • Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and consuming APIs (REST, gRPC, etc.) • 3+ years of development experience (Go, Python, Java, Ruby, or other languages) • 3+ years of experience with configuration management (SaltStack, Ansible, or Chef) • Team-driven software development practices (i.e., Git workflows, Agile/Kanban, etc.) Preferred Qualifications • First-hand experience designing highly available compute platforms for commercialization • Production experience with a container platform (i.e., Kubernetes, Mesos, Nomad) • Experience managing infrastructure at a large scale (i.e., hundreds of thousands of nodes) • Experience with open-source project contributions and leadership
