Frank Gesellchen has over 15 years of experience in the field of science. Frank began their career in 2003 as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Universität Kassel's Institut für Biochemie, where they worked on EU FP6 CRAFT "New cAMP antagonists" and the Human Brain Proteome Project within National Genome Research Network (NGFN). Frank'sroles included protein assay development, molecular cloning, protein expression, protein purification, protein characterisation, enzymatic assays, kinase assays, SPR, SDS-PAGE, and Immunoblotting.
In 2008, Frank moved to The University of Glasgow, where they held two Research Associate roles. In the Centre for Cell Engineering, they worked on the EPSRC funded programme grant "Electronic Sonotweezers" and developed biological applications for acoustic tweezers, as well as cell culture, immunofluorescence, fluorescence microscopy, image analysis, and statistical analysis. In the Institute for Neuroscience and Psychiatry, they worked on the British Heart Foundation funded project "Role of PDE2 in cardiac myocyte hypertrophy", screening for protein interactors of Phosphodiesterase 2A, and performing molecular cloning, site directed mutagenesis, protein expression and purification, and primary mammalian cell culture. In addition, they also supervised MSc and BSc students.
Frank has been with Sphere Fluidics Limited since 2015, where they have held the roles of Principal Scientist and Senior Scientist.
Frank Gesellchen completed a Diploma Biologist (Dipl.Biol.) in Genetics and Molecular Biology from The University of Freiburg between 1990 and 1997. Frank then went on to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Heidelberg University between 1997 and 2003. In 2011 and 2013, they completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from the University of Glasgow. In 2015, they obtained a PRINCE2 Registered Practitioner certification from Advantage Learning Ltd.
