Alec Wilson has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Alec is currently a Core Contributor at Spexigon, starting in October 2022. Prior to that, they worked as the Chief Operating Officer at Spexi Geospatial Inc., a drone-based tech startup, from October 2021 to the present. Alec also has experience as Co-Founder and President of Coastal Drone Co., where they led the team and grew the company into Canada's largest online drone pilot certification provider. Alec held this role from June 2020 to July 2021. Additionally, Alec served as Co-Founder and Director of Business Development at Coastal Drone Co. from November 2017 to June 2020. During this time, the company became a pioneer in the Canadian RPAS industry.
Before their roles at Coastal Drone Co., Alec worked as a Helicopter Pilot and Director of Commercial Projects at SKY Helicopters Inc. from July 2018 to June 2020, and as a Helicopter Pilot and Business Development professional from May 2016 to July 2018. Prior to that, they were a Project Lead at GeoLive.ca, where they developed a business model for a tourism application. Alec started their career at Teck Resources Limited as part of the GIS Group, where they conducted an internal audit of Geographic Information Systems. Lastly, Alec co-founded Student Handyworx, a handyman services company, where they served as Chief of Operations for two years.
Alec Wilson completed their Bachelor's Degree in Physical Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences at The University of British Columbia from 2010 to 2014. In 2013, they also attended The University of Auckland for a semester as part of their Bachelor's Degree. In 2016, Alec obtained a Commercial Pilot License in helicopters (CPL-H) from Chinook Helicopters Ltd. In terms of additional certifications, they acquired Marine Coastal Navigation from Sail Canada~Voile Canada in February 2017, BC Forestry Approved Mountain Course - Helicopter from Chinook Helicopters Ltd in January 2017, Canadian Avalanche Association: AST Level 1 from Avalanche Canada in January 2012, and Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors: Level 1 from CASI-ACMS in January 2007.
