John Horvat has been working in finance and administration for over 30 years. John started their career as an accountant with the Wayne State University Physician Group (UPG) in 1988. John quickly rose through the ranks and became the Assistant Director of Finance in 1992 and the Director of Finance and Operations for the Department of Medicine in 2003. In 2007, they were promoted to Vice President of Finance for UPG. John held this position for two years before being promoted to Vice President of Budget and Decision Support in 2016. John held this position until 2018 when they left UPG to become a consultant. In 2019, they joined Southern Illinois University as their Associate Provost of Finance & Administration.

John Horvat has a Master of Business Administration from Wayne State University and a Bachelor's degree from Oakland University. Their field of study is Business Administration and Management.

John Horvat reports to Jerry Kruse, Dean & Provost CEO SIU Medicine. They work with Debra Klamen - Senior Associate Dean, Education & Curriculum, Kathy Cargnino - Administrative Assistant, and Don Torry - Interim Associate Dean, Research.
