Malay began their academic journey at Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from 1992 to 1996. Malay then pursued a Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Civil (Geotechnical) Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, from 1996 to 1998.
