Riina Salmimies has held a range of positions in various companies since 2005. Riina has worked as a Laboratory Assistant at UPM in Kaukas and Voikkaa from 2005 to 2006. In 2007, they began working at Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) as an Advisor for Organizational Development, Director of Pre-Grant Services, Thesis Worker, and Director of Research Policy and Funding. Riina also served as a Post-Doctoral Researcher and Doctoral Student at LUT. In 2018, they began working as a Chief Technology Officer at Endev Oy and an Independent Researcher. Currently, they are the Dean of the LUT School of Engineering Science and the CEO of Sofi Filtration.

Riina Salmimies received their M.Sc. in Business Administration from LUT University between 2014 and 2016. Prior to that, they received their D.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the same university between 2008 and 2012, and their M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from LUT University between 2003 and 2007. Riina also studied at the Graduate School in Chemical Engineering between 2008 and 2011 and completed a course at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in 2010.
