Dr. Georg Kofler began his career in the media industry in 1985 at the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) and two years later moved to the Kirchgruppe in Munich. In 1989, Kofler started the television station ProSieben, which he expanded into ProSieben Media AG and listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange as CEO in 1997. At the same time, Kofler introduced teleshopping to the German market for the first time with the broadcaster HOT (Home Order Television), now HSE24. From 2000 to 2002 he was CEO and major shareholder of HOT Networks AG, which developed teleshopping throughout Europe. In 2002, Kofler took over the management of the pay-TV company Premiere, which was on the verge of bankruptcy. Kofler restructured Premiere, acquired 20 percent of the company himself and successfully floated Premiere in 2005.
In 2007 he left the television industry and invested in various companies through his holding company, including in the field of energy efficiency. The new developments in social media brought Kofler back into the media business in 2016: he was the main shareholder and chairman of Social Chain AG, which was created at the end of October 2019 through the contribution of The Social Chain Group AG to Lumaland AG. Kofler has been a juror and investor in the popular TV show “Die Höhle der Löwen” since 2017.
