SMYAL (Supporting and Mentoring Youth Advocates and Leaders) is the only Washington, DC metro area service organization solely dedicated to supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. 

SMYAL's mission is to support and empower LGBTQ youth in the Washington, DC metropolitan region. Through youth leadership, SMYAL creates opportunities for LGBTQ youth to build self-confidence, develop critical life skills, and engage their peers and community through service and advocacy. Committed to social change, SMYAL builds, sustains and advocates for programs, policies and services that LGBTQ youth need as they grow into adulthood.

The Youth Services Team at SMYAL focuses on providing comprehensive support for LGBTQ youth through counseling, housing assistance, and community engagement initiatives. Team members work collaboratively to deliver therapeutic services, facilitate peer support, and create safe spaces, ensuring youth have the resources and skills necessary for successful transitions into adulthood. Additionally, the team advocates for policies and programs that address the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ youth in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
