A lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, Douglas Frederick retired with more than 37 years of service with the St. Mary’s County Public School system. During his tenure, he served as a certified Asbestos Hazardous Emergency Response Act Inspector/Management Planner, and he also managed the department’s contracts, personnel in the building trades area, and the summer student program for the maintenance department.
Frederick held the positions of vice president and board member of the St. Mary’s County Classified Employees Association. A graduate of Chopticon High School, he is an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Morganza, member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, board member of the Unified Committee for Afro-American Contributions, and board chairman of Southern Maryland Tri-County Community Action Committee, Inc.
Frederick joined the SMECO Board of Directors in 2007. He currently serves as a member of the Capital Projects Committee and Chairman of the Public Relations Committee. He holds the Credential Cooperative Director Certification, Board Leadership Certification, and Director Gold Certification from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
