João Ferraz has worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Smartex.ai since 2022, an Electrolyzer Mechanical Engineer at Fusion Fuel since 2022, a Development Engineer for Electrical Water Heaters at Bosch Thermotechnik GmbH since 2021, a Researcher at CeNTI - Centre for Nanotechnology and Smart Materials since 2019, an Aluno Estagiário at CeNTI - Centre for Nanotechnology and Smart Materials since 2019, an Estagiário de Verão at ProBiomass since 2018, and a GPS - Engenharia at Ordem dos Engenheiros - Região Norte (OERN) since 2017. João'srole at OERN involved creating a database of locations related to engineering in the Greater Porto and Northern Portugal regions, which can be viewed individually, by name or proximity, or as themed routes, by author or by area, to facilitate tourism.

João Ferraz completed a Mestrado em Engenharia in Engenharia Mecânica from the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto between 2012 and 2019. In 2019, they also completed the Essential Project Management for Students course from APGEI in the field of Gestão de Projetos. In 2017, they attended the BEST Summer Course "Is it just me or it's getting hot in here?" from KU Leuven in the field of Engenharia Ambiental e Sanitária. In 2016, they attended the UIM - Universidade Itinerante do Mar. In 2020, they obtained a certification in the Curso de Simulação Computacional Multifísica com o Ansys Discovery - 18h from the Instituto ESSS.
