Johann Kleyn has extensive work experience in the mining industry. Johann began their career at Gold Fields Ltd as a shift supervisor before moving on to various roles at Anglo Platinum, including mine overseer, section manager, and project mining engineer. At Impala Platinum, they served as a mine manager, responsible for all operational requirements. Johann also worked as a senior mining engineer joint ventures at Anglo Platinum's head office. Kleyn then joined TWP Consulting as a project manager before working at Shaft Sinkers (Pty) Limited as a contracts manager and project manager. Johann later joined Aveng Mining as an operations manager, operations executive, and eventually as a general manager, overseeing both underground and open cast contracts. Currently, they are working at Sibanye-Stillwater as the senior vice president and head of mining for Marikana Operations.

Johann Kleyn obtained a B.Eng. degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Pretoria, where they studied from 1994 to 1999. Johann further pursued an MBA degree in Business Administration and Management from North-West University / Noordwes-Universiteit from 2002 to 2004.
