Principal Biodiversity Lead at Shell

Fiona Marks is a seasoned environmental professional with extensive experience in ecosystem services and biodiversity. Currently serving as the Principal Ecosystem Services Advisor at Shell since September 2019, Fiona is responsible for implementing Shell's 'Respecting Nature' strategy, focusing on biodiversity action plans and sustainability initiatives. Previously, as the Senior Nature Based Solutions and Biodiversity Lead, expertise was provided in carbon and biodiversity offsets for Shell's Australian operations. Fiona's career also includes significant roles at QGC, where responsibilities included leading a technical team for environmental compliance, managing biodiversity offsets, and overseeing environmental permits and approvals for major projects. Early career experience encompasses leadership roles at the Department of Environment and Resource Management and the Environmental Protection Agency, focusing on policy development and environmental regulation in the coal seam gas and mining sectors. Fiona holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Honours in Zoology, and a Graduate Certificate in Public Sector Leadership.
