Janet LaFrence is the current Faster Payments Program Manager at SHAZAM Network. Janet has over two years of experience in designing, developing, and implementing strategies and initiatives to facilitate improvements in U.S. payment system efficiency, security, and interoperability.
Previously, Janet worked as a Senior Payment Consultant for the Federal Reserve System from February 2016 to June 2018. In this role, they were responsible for conducting primary and secondary research and pro-actively monitoring global payment industry trends and gaps to gain insights on best practices, issues, threats, and emerging technologies and to develop risk mitigation strategies and recommendations. Janet also cultivated strong working relationships with U.S. financial industry stakeholders and experts such as national and regional banks, merchants, card brands, debit networks, hardware and software providers, and financial services standard-setting organizations.
During their time at the Federal Reserve System, Janet helped facilitate two nationwide payments industry task forces and led several “Fraud Symposiums” in collaboration with the Upper Midwest ACH Association (UMACHA) and the Financial and Retailers Protection Association (FRPA). Janet also served in leadership roles for the Federal Reserve System Payment Standards Leadership Team and Payment Standards Group.
One of Janet’s key achievements includes leading a group of over 75 card industry stakeholders and experts to produce Card Not Present Fraud Mitigation Guidelines, an American National Standards Institute report.
Janet LaFrence has a MBA from Illinois State University with an emphasis in marketing. Janet is also an AAP (Certified Electronic Payments Expert) from NACHA - Accredited ACH Professional. Janet has a B.S. in accounting from Illinois State University and they graduated from Richwoods Community High School.
