Montrell Lofton began their work experience in 2007 as an Orientation Counselor for New Student Orientation at NC State University. In 2007, they also worked as a Habilitation Technician at Maxim Healthcare Services until 2009. From 2010 to 2013, Montrell worked at Merck, starting as a Bio Process Technician II and later transitioning to the role of MES Engineer - MBR Design and Development. In 2014, they joined NNE as a Process Engineer and remained there until 2019. Since 2019, Montrell has been working at Sequence Inc., where they started as a Project Engineer II before being promoted to Senior Project Engineer and eventually becoming a Project Lead.

Montrell Lofton earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from North Carolina State University, between 2005 and 2010.
