Brian Free is a Senior Research Engineer at Scientific Systems, focusing on sense and avoid systems for autonomous vehicles. Prior experience as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Brown University involved developing assistive technology for the visually impaired, utilizing a vibrotactile belt for navigation. Brian was also a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Maryland, where work centered on creating an autonomous underwater vehicle inspired by fish, including the development of artificial lateral-line capabilities to sense vortices. Teaching experience includes serving as a Teaching Fellow for Introduction to Engineering Design at the University of Maryland. Brian Free holds a PhD in Flight Dynamics and Controls, a Master's degree, and a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering from the University of Maryland.
