Martijn van Werde has a diverse and accomplished work history. Currently, they serve as the Global Head of Next Gen Oral at Scandinavian Tobacco Group, where they lead the development of the Next Generation Oral category and is responsible for brand development, marketing strategies, digital transformation, and new business opportunities. Prior to this role, Martijn held the position of Global Head of Business Development & Innovation, Growth Incubator, where they focused on diversifying the company's business and driving long-term revenue growth through new ventures, partnerships, and brand development outside the tobacco category.
Before joining Scandinavian Tobacco Group, Martijn worked as a Commercial Strategy Consultant for multiple companies in the FMCG, consumer goods and services, B2C, and B2B2C sectors. In this role, they provided guidance and support in optimizing commercial strategies, improving in-market execution, developing expansion strategies, and accelerating growth.
Martijn also has an extensive tenure at Philip Morris International, where they held various leadership positions. As Director of Marketing in Morocco, they successfully grew the business and exceeded targets in terms of market share, volume, and revenue. In the role of Director Portfolio Strategies for Africa and Levant, Martijn led the commercial strategy to expand the company's footprint in Africa through market entries and improved ROI. Additionally, they served as Director of Sales Strategy for Southern Africa, overseeing the strategic rollout to the Informal Trade Channel and establishing a Sales Organization Development department.
Prior to their time at Philip Morris International, Martijn held positions at Philip Morris France and Philip Morris Holland, where they managed brand strategies, implemented innovative initiatives, and achieved growth in market share and volume.
Martijn's work experience also includes an internship as an Assistant Brand Manager at JACOBS DOUWE EGBERTS, where they gained experience in the coffee industry and developed a business case for Out of Home Coffee & Coffee Machines.
Martijn van Werde has a Master of Science in Business Administration (MScBA) with a focus on Strategic Marketing Management, obtained from Erasmus University Rotterdam in the period from 1996 to 2002. Martijn also completed a course in Leading Digital Business Transformation at IMD in 2023 and a Foundation for Business Leadership program at IMD in 2019. Additionally, they have obtained certifications in Re:Wired Digital Pro - Marketing in 2017 and Re:Wired Digital Foundation in 2016 from AVADO.
