Michael Hwang has a wealth of work experience in software engineering. Michael began their career in 2013 working as a Software Developer for Epic, where they expanded the company's suite of business intelligence offerings, created reports with customizable or customer-specific queries, and precomputed OLAP/data cubes for KPIs and dashboards. In 2016, they joined Syapse as a Software Engineer, where they integrated data from physicians and academic research institutions on a SaaS platform, created a pipeline to ingest clinical data from client source systems, and wrote scripts to produce data in bulk for testing purposes. Michael then worked as a Software Engineer at The Trade Desk, Inc. in 2017, where they improved a demand-side real-time bidding platform for programmatic advertising and enhanced APIs used by advertisers' media buying and data management platforms. In the same year, they also joined Edmodo as a Software Engineer, where they created and deployed a new service to manage A/B testing and enabled students and educators in classrooms worldwide to connect and share content. In 2018, they began working at Drawbridge Inc. as a Software Engineer, where they batch-processed data from hundreds of millions of cookies, devices, and other sources using Spark/Scala/Hadoop to create an identity graph enabling cross device tracking. Finally, in 2020, they joined both Scanbuy and Rally (Rally Bus Corp) as a Senior Software Engineer. At Scanbuy, they led the conversion of React UIs to best up-to-date libraries, practices, and architectural principles, improved GraphQL server implementation, and maintained, expanded capabilities, and improved the performance of legacy systems in Java/Spring and Groovy/Grails. At Rally, they created single-page web apps with Mithril.js to allow bus operators to manage their drivers and fleet, dispatch drivers/buses for upcoming trips, and monitor the location and boarding statuses of buses in real-time, and applied elements of event-driven architectures and technologies such as SignalR, Twilio Notify, and Twilio Sync to enable push notifications, synchronization among web and mobile apps, geofence alerts, and real-time location data.

Michael Hwang obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Biomedical Engineering from Vanderbilt University. Michael also holds two certifications from Triplebyte: a Certified Front-end Engineer obtained in March 2021, and a Certified Generalist Software Engineer obtained in April 2019.
