Ana Paula Tavares is an accomplished leader in nonprofit organizations with extensive experience in wildlife conservation and cultural institutions. Currently serving as Chief Executive Officer at Save the Chimps, Inc. since January 2021, Tavares oversees one of the largest chimpanzee sanctuaries globally, dedicated to providing care for over 220 chimpanzees. Prior experience includes roles as Executive Director of Audubon NY and CT and Vice President at the National Audubon Society from February 2018 to December 2020, and Executive Vice President at Rainforest Alliance from May 2000 to March 2018. Tavares co-founded New Frontiers Group, Ltd. and held leadership positions at the New York Botanical Garden and Martha Graham Dance Company. Tavares holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marymount Manhattan College in New York.
