Lucia Martel-Dow was appointed to the Board in January 2021, filling a vacant seat. In the November 2022 General Election, the seat will be required to be filled by a candidate who resides in Trustee Area 2; Trustee Martel-Dow currently resides in Area 2.
She currently serves as a Board liaison on the following committees: District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC); Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council; Graduate Profile Steering Committee; and the Marin Promise Partnership Council.
Lucia was born and raised in Venezuela, where she attended law school. She was a member of the Venezuelan Foreign Service before moving to Madrid, Spain, where she worked on human rights and immigration policy issues in an international organization serving 22 Ibero-American countries. In 2007, she moved to San Francisco to be with her husband. She worked in the non-profit sector and later ventured into the corporate world as a compliance consultant in the financial industry. Lucia joined Canal Alliance in 2015, where she currently oversees the Immigration and Social Services Departments.
Lucia has a Master of Laws Degree from University of California, Hastings College of the Law and a Master of Laws in International Law and International Relations from the Complutense University of Madrid. She is a member of American Immigration Lawyers Association and the Marin County Bar Association. She is also a Commissioner with Marin First Five. Lucia is bilingual in English and Spanish.
