Derick Velazquez is an experienced firefighter currently serving at the San José Fire Department since November 2021, with previous firefighter experience at the City of Watsonville from February 2019 to November 2021. Derick also has a diverse background that includes clerical and payroll responsibilities at Savanna Harvesting from May 2017 to February 2019, as well as event staff duties at Cardella Winery, where support was provided for wedding events from November 2015 to February 2019. Prior to entering the fire service, Derick was a professional baseball player, specifically a minor league pitcher with the Houston Astros from June 2014 to May 2017. Educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Criminology from California State University, Fresno, and completion of the Firefighter 1 program at the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium in 2018.
